Well since I don't wear dresses, I can't say for sure. I have read that every 1/4 inch you lose off your waist is 1 pound of fat. So if you can figure out how many inches you need to lose to drop a dress size, then multiply that by 4 and you'll have a rough idea of how much fat you need to lose.

I don't think you can genuinely accomodate everyone by associating dress sizes in lbs. We all come in different shapes and sizes and we all gain and lose weight from different places. I have lost 35lbs but have only gone down 2 sizes in pants - the next person might lose 10 lbs and drop 3 pant sizes. It will also depend on how you are losing weight, people who start working out may drop dress sizes without losing weight because they are toning up.

I am a male so please forgive me if I offend anyone here but what is it about female clothing sizes? A woman might fit comfortably into a size 12 dress - and look sensational in it - but will be upset because the last dress she bought was a size 10. The size is only a small tag on the inside of the garment and has no bearing on what you are, who you are or how good you look. Please take the advice of mere male, you are better off - for looks and comfort - in a garment that fits well then a garment with the right size tag on it.

Re: How many pounds to lose a size?

Thank you, gentlemen!

You seem to be very understanding. Being a woman, sometimes we get obessed with dress sizes because we remember what we wear the last summer or the last year, etc. Actually, I am not a person obssesed with my weight, but I want to get a rough idea how to get to my dress size that I feel comfortable with. I did not want to ask about size and weight because everyone it is different. I just wanted to get a feedback about how many pounds you drop a size.

In my case, I have lost 14 pounds and one size. I care more about sizes than weight. Thank you Donnut, you give me the idea how to figure out the size.

Thank you again, you are such kind men and it is always interesting to know your side. Please keep posting!

Gracias,
Orquidea

Never2L8 You are absolutly right in what you said it not the size on the tag its how you look.....I am 150 lbs right now and i wear a size 14 pants but some pants i can fit in are a size 11 and for both sizes are not baggy at all and fit well. now my friend is heavier then me weighs about 20 to 35 lbs more then me and fits into pants i cant even get past my hips. so yeah its not the size its how you look in it

QUOTE]DONT SET YOURSELF FOR HIGH GOALS THINK OF IT LIKE THIS I WILL TRY TO LOSE 5 LBS A MONTH (THATS LIKE A LB A WEEK +SOME) AND IN 4 SHORT MONTHS I WILL HAVE LOST 20 LBS!!!!! JUST A LITTLE QUOTE TO GET YOU ALL THINKING A LITTLE CAN GO A LONG WAY AND CAN ADD UP LIKE THOSE PENNIES IN YOUR COUCH! LOL

Everyone who has responded to you is correct ESPECIALLY when encouraging you to remember it is only a tag and a number. What's important is how you feel about yourself. GENERALLY, I have found (and EVERYONE'S body is different) that approximately 20 lbs is one size whether it be dress, pants, or shirt. This is a very general approximation. Good Luck, I am sure you look great but, then it's not important what I think. Feel good about YOU.
